Editorial Standards & Corrections

Cameralius aims to make difficult public evidence easier to understand without making claims stronger than the evidence allows.

Evidence before assertion

Published claims should be traceable to evidence appropriate to the question. Cameralius prefers primary official sources where they are available and useful, while recognising that methodology documents, statistical publications, legislation, audit material and other authoritative sources can answer different parts of the same question.

Different kinds of statement stay different

Cameralius distinguishes between what a source says, what can responsibly be asserted as a fact, what is reproducibly derived from admitted facts, what is analytical interpretation and what depends on a model or assumption set. These layers should not be silently collapsed into one another.

Definitions and boundaries are part of the evidence

A number is not treated as self-explanatory. Where relevant, Cameralius preserves institutional perimeter, fiscal stage, accounting basis, source vintage, reference period, units, classifications, revision state and other qualifications needed to understand what the number means.

That is why distinctions such as budget ≠ execution, expenditure ≠ payment, zero ≠ missing and comparable ≠ additive matter editorially as well as technically.

Uncertainty and limitations

Where evidence is incomplete, provisional, revised, not fully comparable or dependent on assumptions, that limitation should be made visible. Cameralius should not fill gaps with unsupported certainty merely to make an answer cleaner.

Corrections

Material factual errors should be corrected promptly once verified. A correction should preserve the ability to understand what changed when the change materially affects the meaning, conclusion or evidential basis of a publication. Minor typographical or formatting fixes may be made without a separate correction notice where they do not change meaning.

Updates and revisions

Living references and other research may be updated as underlying evidence changes. Cameralius aims to distinguish source vintage from the date of a Cameralius publication or update. Material revisions should be reflected in the publication’s visible update history or editorial status where appropriate.

Access does not change the evidential standard

Over time, Cameralius may publish both public and subscriber research. Access level should not determine whether evidence is described faithfully: public and paid work should be governed by the same core standards of provenance, qualification and correction.
